Design Projects in VLSI Systems I

Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) is the process of creating an integrated circuit by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. VLSI allows for an increasing number of applications of integrated circuits in high-performance computing, controls, telecommunications, image and video processing, and consumer electronics. This course provides an introduction to mixed signal design, which allows for both analog and digital circuits on the same semiconductor die. Working in teams, you will create a small mixed-signal VLSI design using modern design flow and CAD tools. You will learn the techniques for building and testing chips, including creating custom layouts. As VSLI devices are found everywhere, developing knowledge in this integral field is critical to careers in this rapidly evolving sector.

Topics Include

  • DNNs, chip constraints, and the limitation of accelerators
  • High level, gateway, and advanced synthesis
  • Analog functional model
  • How to use Virtuoso for schematic and layout
  • Chip testing strategies

You Will Learn

  • The tools used to create CMOS integrated circuits
  • How to write a Verilog model of a chip
  • Methodologies for testing and debugging chips
  • How to use synthesis and place and route tools to create chip layout
