Description

Gain a dynamic and practical perspective of computational molecular biology while exploring the most prevalent issues in the field. Critically dissect existing methods for representing and analyzing genomes, sequences, and proteins to find the strengths and limitations of each. Class projects will help molecular biologists and computer scientists to understand the major issues concerning genomes, sequences and structures.

This course is cross listed with BIOC218.

Topics Include

  • Genome databases
  • Quantitative and probabilistic pattern matching
  • Protein sequence and structural motifs
  • Pathway bioinformatics

Prerequisites

Genetics, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology (Stanford Course: BIO 41) or consent of instructor

Notes

Grading
