Universal Design for Learning: Explore - October 2023 | Harvard University

To address the remarkable variability among students in today’s diverse learning environments, educators are increasingly turning to Universal Design for Learning (UDL). UDL offers a framework for guiding the design of learning opportunities that are inclusive and challenging for all learners.

This three-week online workshop includes a mix of self-paced learning, asynchronous group discussion, and job-embedded application. A core part of the HGSE experience is cohort learning, and this curriculum is designed to create a community of practice for participants to learn with and from each other.

All materials are provided at the start of the program and can be completed at times that best fit a participant’s schedule within the three-week program period. Participants should plan to devote an average of three to five hours of work per week. Participants who complete all individual activities and contribute to group discussions prior to the end of the course period will receive a certificate indicating completion of fifteen clock hours of instruction.

Each week you will: engage with a variety of resources (articles, podcasts, videos) to explore and build new learning around UDL. You’ll share your ideas and connect with other educators who are committed to designing inclusive learning environments. You’ll self-reflect on ways to further develop your practice through a UDL lens. And you’ll gain tools and approaches to start to try out aspects of UDL in practice.
