Women in a classroom sitting and discussing papers that they are reading.

Description

During this hands-on institute, participants will develop their own Reading Like a Historian lesson. Each session will feature time for participants to work on their own lesson and receive feedback from other participants. In between sessions, participants will work on a different aspect of their lesson, and office hours will be available with SHEG staff. Session 1 will focus on drafting central historical questions and document sets; session 2 will focus on scaffolding documents; and session 3 will focus on designing guiding questions and graphic organizers.

Each session will include opportunities to engage with Stanford History Education Group materials as part of a large group and in small breakout groups to better understand various design principles of the Reading Like a Historian curriculum.

Prerequisites

This institute is designed for educators who have experience with the Reading Like a Historian curriculum or who have attended previous Stanford History Education Group professional development.
