Covid-19 Elective

The goal of this elective course is to provide up to date information and create an open space for students to engage in dialogue about the various issues pertinent to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instructors hope that providing a localized source of information will help students gain a better understanding of the virus and its societal impacts and find ways to get involved locally or globally. They will cover a variety of features of COVID-19 ranging from virology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation and prognosis, to epidemiology, current clinical research, and to its societal and economic impacts. Classes will consist of a 30 minute lecture followed by 20 minute breakout discussion periods. Readings will be suggested in concert with each week’s lecture.

A 2-unit option is available for students who want to work on mentored projects related to COVID-19. A 3-unit option is available for students who want to submit a first draft of an article describing the broader implications of their COVID-19 project.
