Description

During this interactive institute, participants will learn about the Stanford History Education Group’s Reading Like a Historian lessons, Beyond the Bubble assessments, and Civic Online Reasoning curriculum. Developed for grades 5-12, this three-session institute will address:

  • Introduction to Reading Like a Historian design principles & historical thinking
  • Modeling historical thinking during online instruction
  • Formative assessment as part of inquiry-based history instruction
  • Facilitating historical discussions in online instruction
  • Teaching students how to sort fact from fiction online

Each session will include opportunities to engage with Stanford History Education Group materials as part of a large group and in small breakout groups. Participants will learn strategies for implementing these resources during in-person instruction and remote learning. Participants will also learn how to adapt SHEG resources to best meet the needs of their particular students.

Dr. Joel Breakstone and Dr. Brad Fogo will serve as instructors for the institute. Professor Sam Wineburg will be a guest presenter.

Participants will receive a digital record of completion. Participants who complete the course and assigned homework will be eligible for 1 CEU, issued by the Stanford Center for Professional Development.
