Description
The goal of the Hollyhock School Leaders Institute (HSLI) is to build a professional community of leaders at Hollyhock Schools interested in supporting one another while leveraging key best practices of the Hollyhock Fellowship across the entire school. Accordingly, HSLI will provide school leaders with an opportunity to understand the Hollyhock fellows’ learning experience, to learn about CSET's practice-based approach to professional learning, and to engage with other school leaders to take full advantage of this opportunity to strengthen the teaching and learning at Hollyhock schools.
Dates
The Hollyhock School Leaders Institute will take place July 19-22, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are following Stanford University’s directives and are offering this institute as a virtual experience. Our time together will be spent in a combination of whole-group and small group synchronous sessions as well as asynchronous readings and activities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to participate in HSLI?
Any school leader that has or had teachers from their school sites participate in the Hollyhock Fellowship Program since its inception in 2014. A school leader can be a principal, assistant principal, instructional coach, dean, etc.
Can I attend HSLI again if I’ve attended in the past?
Yes, all past participants are welcome to attend again. Sessions are intentionally designed along two intertwined pathways of new and returning participants, leveraging the whole group and breaking into separate groups strategically.
Can I attend HSLI if my participating fellows graduated from the fellowship years ago?
Yes! Leaders at schools with current Hollyhock alumni are welcome to participate.
What’s the daily schedule?
Although the details are still being worked out, most synchronous sessions will take place between the hours of 8am-1pm Pacific Time. Please note that this is the timeframe. No continuous session will be longer than 1.5 hours.
What topics can I expect to see at the summer institute?
New participants will engage in an overview of the Hollyhock Fellowship Program, including the Collaborative Cycles of Improvement, our Core Practice approach, and the Hollyhock Equity Principles. Returning participants will dive deeper into these areas as well as expand on topics from their professional learning community built over the past year.
What can I expect to take away from the summer institute experience?
Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on learnings throughout the institute, applying them to their unique school contexts and will leave with an action plan designed in collaboration with colleagues.
What do ongoing whole-group virtual sessions look like throughout the 2021-2022 school year?
School year professional learning sessions will be designed responsively around participant problems of practice, building and strengthening our supportive collegial community while integrating Hollyhock practices and principles where applicable. The 5 virtual sessions typically take place from 3:00-4:30p.m. PST midweek.
