Infectious diseases have been present and pervasive throughout the ages, with symptoms ranging from mild to life-threatening. In some cases, such as what we are currently experiencing with COVID-19, disease spreads rapidly, creating a global pandemic and cases of serious illness and death. While tremendous progress has been made to understand and eradicate many diseases, there is still much to learn. In this course you will discover the role of infectious agents in chronic disease and how epidemiology is used to dissect this relationship. You will develop a basic understanding of infectious disease modeling and molecular techniques in disease investigations. You will explore the global burden of infectious disease and learn what health measures can help treat and prevent disease. This course was formerly numbered HRP231.
