Current Issues in Technology and National Security

Key regional security concerns and advanced technologies shape many of today’s headlines. In response to these current events, this course’s regional focus areas will include the Korean peninsula, the South and East China Seas, Ukraine, and Iran.
Technologies explored will include missile defense systems, hypersonic vehicles, nuclear stockpile and deterrence concepts and autonomous platforms like drones. Expert speakers will be followed by an in-depth discussion of both the technologies and their policy implications.
Students can take this course for 1, 2 or 3 units. One unit will require reading and participation, two units will require an additional end-quarter assignment, and three units will require an additional mid-quarter assignment.
