Description

Recent cutting-edge, translational research in diagnostics and nano-therapies is having a major influence on how we treat and prevent cancer and cardiovascular diseases. This course covers state-of-the-art and emerging bio-sensors, bio-chips, imaging modalities and nano-therapies studied in the context of human biology and physiology—the nervous system, circulatory system and immune system.

Please note that this course is cross listed with SBIO225 and MATSCI225

Prerequisites

None, however, a basic knowledge of electromagnetism, optics, chemistry, thermodynamics or human biology will be complementary.

Topics include

  • Molecular and cellular biology
  • The nervous, circulatory and immune system
  • Cancer and cardiovascular disease
  • DNA, RNA and protein sensor arrays
  • In-vivo medical imaging
  • Molecular imaging modalities such as MRI, PET and photoacoustic imaging
