Analysis of Structures

Note: AA240 is not going to be offered through SCPD this winter 2023-24.

This course explores methods for analyzing aircraft structures and determining their behavior under various loading conditions. It includes analysis of deformations, stresses, strains, and failures of structures that are commonly used in design of aircraft and spacecraft, such as section beams, trusses, frames, rings, and monocoque and semimonocoque. Participants will learn to apply energy and finite element methods to structural mechanics.

Topics Include

  • Energy methods
  • Finite element methods
  • Material behavior: plasticity and fracture
  • Finite element methods
  • Structural stability and buckling
  • Thin-plate analysis
  • Truss, frame, and plate structures
